Course Prerequisites: At least RYA Competent Crew. A valid passport WILL be needed. You also need to be relatively fit and mobile, i.e. able to get in and out of a tender when alongside the yacht, as we do anchor and go ashore in the tender on occasions.
Minimum Age: 18
Holiday Insurance: We would advise ALL our customers to ensure they have suitable holiday insurance in-place. Yachtsman’s insurance is available from a variety of souces like Topsail Insurance and can cover things like cancellations and personal effects cover.
So what is included in the course cost?
Well, unlike some other centres, we include all your meals aboard (Breakfast, lunches, dinners and snacks), so you won’t have to go to any extra expense during your holiday with us. We also include the following:
Sail around Britain with us! This is a great adventure for those who want to get out beyond the confines of the Solent and into bigger water, experiencing everything a grand tour of the UK has to offer.
Perfect for those longer passages that add a bit more adventure to your sailing. Sailing around the UK will get you out of the crowded Solent and into waters further afield. Be aware that this adventure involves open-ocean and much more offshore-orientated sailing, which may mean rougher weather and more challenging conditions. Please ensure that you have a valid Passport with at least six months left on it prior to departure and bring it with you!
You’ll get to visit a host of different locations around the UK. Some nights will be spent in local marinas, but you’ll also anchor overnight and undertake night passages. You will be an active crew member, undertaking watches, helming the boat, trimming sails, helping with cooking and logistics, amongst other tasks. It’s a demanding but fun seven weeks, and oh so worth it.
Along with some cracking sailing, you’ll get to visit places you’ve not been to before. You’ll get to experience the best sailing the UK has to offer. It’s a grand adventure which isn’t to be missed.
Unlike some of our competitors, we try to stop-off at our destinations for around 12-48hours, giving you a bit of time to explore, have fun and really get to soak up the local vibes. We don’t want you to feel we rush from one destination to another, which can mean that between ports there will be some overnight sailing, and some longer passages.
And, we also let you suggest potential destinations to visit! Providing it’s not too extreme (Barbados is a bit of a stretch!) and that there are suitable moorings/anchorings or marinas etc, our expert Skippers will do their best to get you where you want to stop-off and explore. Who else does that?
We appreciate that it’s your holiday and adventure, so providing it can be reasonably achieved, and everyone is in agreement, we’ll do our best to get you there!
Please be aware that due to weather, unforeseen circumstances, safety and other valid sensible concerns we may not be able to visit everywhere on the list, but we’ll do our best to make it happen. Our skippers decision is final.
Sailing Around Britain runs in a single format:
Starts from our Gosport marina base and circumnavigates the UK, visiting various marinas and ports around the country.
What better a way to explore Britain than by being aboard one of our fleet yachts.
This is a fantastic way to build a lot of sea mileage, gain valuable experience, have fun and see some of the best sailing locations in Great Britain.
You’ll enjoying longer passages and more adventurous sailing, all guided by one of our highly-experienced and professional RYA qualified instructors or professional Skippers.
With so many exciting and stunning locations on the itinerary (weather dependant of course) you’ll get to see iconic ports like Whitby, The Farne Islands, The Orkney Islands, the beautiful west country in detail, with typical destinations such as Noss on Dart, Falmouth, Plymouth (visit Captain Jaspers for some awesome food!) and the Scilly Isles, the west coast of Wales, the Isle of Man and the ever-vibrant and stunning Western Scottish islands, plus so many other incredible locations*
You’ll get time ashore to explore and soak up the local atmosphere, and really experience this amazing country in a way most people never get to see. What a perfect way to spent seven weeks!
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Please ensure you have a valid Passport with at least six months left to run on it, and that you do bring it with you on the course. If you arrive without your passport you won’t be permitted to attend the course unless weather dictates we are staying in the UK. There will be NO exceptions to this rule and no refunds will be made, so make sure you have prepared accordingly!
