The course was really well-structured, starting with 4 days... read more in the classroom with Tom, who did an excellent job of explaining the theory in a clear and engaging way. He made what could have been complex topics easy to understand and enjoyable to learn.
The following 5 days were spent sailing with Nick, our instructor, and it was absolutely brilliant. Nick was great fun, incredibly knowledgeable, and endlessly patient, making the whole experience both educational and enjoyable. We had plenty of hands-on practice, built up our skills, and gained real confidence on the water.
From start to finish, the whole team at Commodore Yachting was professional, friendly, and supportive. I came away feeling well-prepared and inspired to take the next steps in my sailing journey.
If you're considering doing your Day Skipper course, I can’t recommend Commodore Yachting enough, you’ll get fantastic instruction, great sailing, and loads of new skills in a really fun environment.

It’s now been over a year and I have just sailed mostly Saulo from the UK to Faro on my own boat to med. I can’t rate the team highly enough. I told the instructor that I was going to be doing my dream sail and he focused a lot my lessons in practical on solo manoeuvres and docking, it was really great experience. I grew up sailing in New Zealand as a child and then nothing really since and then I joined Sailing Club and did about a year with them and then at the same time I did my qualifications put up some experience.

Taking the time out and not to mention the expense of doing your day skipper or competent crew is substantial... read more and you want value. I feel I did not just find a school but a community willing to help.

What I really appreciated was the honest open communication especially from Tom.
I went with certain expectations of what I would be able to achieve, these were not realistic and Tom explained the process and his expectations perfectly.
If you want to complete a course where the aim is to achieve the right standard and not just a certificate and you appreciate good honest feedback then these are the guys for you.

I plan to do all my training through Commodore.

Excellent skipper and a wonderful weeks sailing, highly recommed Commodore over other sailing schools.

  Day Skipper Theory Course  - I successfully completed the in-person 5 day Day Skipper Theory course, having become rather rusty on my sailing navigation skills in recent years. The tuition from Tom was excellent, delivered... read more in a very easy-to-absorb down-to-earth way and any complexity de-mystified. I learnt a huge amount and never found my attention wandering which can happen sometimes on courses. Each session was interspersed with a good set of practical examples to work through and Tom was always on hand to provide helpful guidance and insight while encouraging us to think through each situation. There was a good friendly group of us doing the course and I'd definitely recommend this course with Commodore to anyone who wants to brush up on their sailing theory before heading out onto the water.

Our instructors Tom and Mark were fantastic, clearly very experienced, and explained the required skills very clearly. We felt we really learnt a lot, as well as the reasons why each item was so critical/important.

There were no hidden costs and the programme was very clear and manageable.
