So what is included in the share-a-yacht charter?
This is a bareboat yacht charter without a skipper, so you’ll need to be at least RYA Day Skipper practical qualified. We don’t provide food so you’ll need to provision the boat yourself. We do however include the following:
A great week/weekend for those who want to do some sailing with likeminded fellow sailors without the associated cost of taking out a full charter yourself. Enjoy the time afloat and have some fun without the big expense.
You’ll get to plan out some great passages with your fellow sailors, and just enjoy some time afloat, relaxing and having fun. We don’t provide an instructor or skipper for the share-a-yacht-charter events, so you’ll already be an RYA Day Skipper practical qualified sailor or above.
Events run in a choice of various formats:
Starts from our Gosport marina base and visits various ports and marinas further afield.
What better a way to celebrate that new RYA Day Skipper qualification than with a shared yacht charter week/weekend aboard one of our fleet yachts!
A great way to build extra mileage and enjoy some longer passages to locations further afield than the Solent, it’s all up to you and your fellow sailors as to where you want to go!
You’ll get to see first hand why the south coast is the perfect place to build some miles and gain more experience.
With so many locations to chose from (weather dependant of course) you might go and see Portland or Weymouth, or how about metropolitan Brighton Marina or even Cherbourg and the Channel Islands for a great night out when you arrive? A great way to build experience and also have a great holiday without the expense!

Our Mile Building Weekends are the perfect way to build-up your sea miles and gain valuable experience and knowledge at the helm as Skipper or as crew under the watchful eye of one of our expert Instructors. With longer, more involved & exciting passages, sometimes including night sailing, it’s an adventure outside the confines of the Solent and a great way to gain confidence in the waters around the South Coast.

The RYA SRC VHF Radio course is the minimum qualification required by law to operate VHF or Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel. This RYA VHF SRC radio training covers marine VHF radio operation, DSC distress calling, and routine communication procedures.

Anyone who operates a marine radio at sea needs this qualification whether you are on a kayak, paddle board, RIB, jet ski, or yacht. Our RYA VHF SRC radio course runs in a single day at our Gosport Marina base on the Solent.

After completing this course you will be able to take the next step in your sailing journey with our RYA Day Skipper theory or practical training courses. For official course details visit the RYA radio courses page.

The RYA VHF SRC (Short Range Certificate) course covers everything you need to legally operate marine VHF and DSC equipment on a UK-flagged vessel. You will learn how to make distress calls, communicate with coastguard stations, and use Digital Selective Calling to contact specific vessels.
The course runs from 9am to 5pm at our Gosport Marina training centre. The morning covers VHF radio theory, channel frequencies, and communication procedures. The afternoon is hands-on with DSC simulators practicing distress, urgent, and routine calls. The written and practical exam happens at the end of the day — results are immediate.
The RYA VHF radio course is the minimum legal requirement for anyone using marine VHF on a British vessel. It is also a prerequisite for the RYA Day Skipper theory course and is included in our Yachtmaster Fast Track programme. No previous experience is needed — just a good understanding of spoken English.
