What I really appreciated was the honest open communication especially from Tom.
I went with certain expectations of what I would be able to achieve, these were not realistic and Tom explained the process and his expectations perfectly.
If you want to complete a course where the aim is to achieve the right standard and not just a certificate and you appreciate good honest feedback then these are the guys for you.

I plan to do all my training through Commodore.

  Day Skipper Theory Course  - I successfully completed the in-person 5 day Day Skipper Theory course, having become rather rusty on my sailing navigation skills in recent years. The tuition from Tom was excellent, delivered... read more in a very easy-to-absorb down-to-earth way and any complexity de-mystified. I learnt a huge amount and never found my attention wandering which can happen sometimes on courses. Each session was interspersed with a good set of practical examples to work through and Tom was always on hand to provide helpful guidance and insight while encouraging us to think through each situation. There was a good friendly group of us doing the course and I'd definitely recommend this course with Commodore to anyone who wants to brush up on their sailing theory before heading out onto the water.

Our instructors Tom and Mark were fantastic, clearly very experienced, and explained the required skills very clearly. We felt we really learnt a lot, as well as the reasons why each item was so critical/important.

  What shall we do with the dayskipper student😊  - Signed up on the 9 day skipper course with four days in the classroom getting filled up with tides, weather, navigation, general terminology and al there is to know about... read more sailing and much more. With all the information and theoretical practice on our mind, we set of course onto the Solent in a superb sailing yacht Emerald star. 5 days sailing and getting to grips up with practical mooring, jibbing, reefing, anchoring and learning the rules of the road of travel under sail. We got challenging winds and tides to work with and made crossings to Southampton, Portsmouth and Isle of Wight. We learned so much and got to do it all ourselves over and over again. We returned POSH
in one piece and successfully completed the course.

Paul, the instructor, had a highly infectious enthusiasm that made the learning experience extremely enjoyable. He made intelligent use of the rapidly changing weather conditions to cover all aspects of the syllabus. Staff at the training school were always helpful and friendly. This was a fantastic experience and recommend it as an excellent way to achieve a Day Skipper qualification.
