31/07/23 – Sail around Britain. Meeting the locals!
By now you’ve probably noticed we started our grand 50-day adventure of sailing around Britain back at the start of July, aboard one of our 44′ Bavaria cruising yachts “Emerald Star”.
Now into the start of week 4, the crew have had a great time exploring the east coast, stopping off at Chichester, Dover, Ipswich, Lowestoft, Whitby, the Farne Islands (for a swim!), Peterhead, Wick, Stromness in the Orkney islands, Stornaway on the west coast of Scotland, Ullapool and last night at a stunning anchorage near Portree.
Along the way, they’ve had some incredible weather, ranging from gusty force-6’s to flat-calm conditions which required a bit of motoring along the way. Food has been high on the list, and the local harbours have not disappointed, with even a couple of lobsters being enjoyed on board by the crew!
Yesterday the locals decided to say hello, and not for the first time either – the boat was joined by a pod of wild dolphins! Awesome to see, and in such clear waters too, whats not to love?
The journey is only halfway through, and we’ll be posting more pictures and videos on our instagram and Facebook pages (Search for Commodore Yachting and you’ll find us). Take a look!
And of course, we’ll be doing this again in 2024, in July and possibly April too, this time, both our 44’s Bavaria yachts will be undertaking the adventure at the same time. We are taking deposits on our website for next year – just click HERE and secure your space!
Our first skipper Ed has just signed-off after spending three weeks on board, and as usual he’s done an amazing job, and injected his usual dry humour and can-do attitude into the mix. Our Chief Instructor Tom is currently at the wheel and will no doubt bring his endless enthusiasm and passion for sailing into play. We hear the crew have planned some great destinations, so watch this space!
