Why choose custom-tailored sailing tuition
Bespoke sailing courses offer flexibility that standard programmes cannot match. When you book bespoke sailing courses with Commodore Yachting, you get a programme designed around your experience level, learning goals, and schedule. Our bespoke sailing courses have helped everyone from complete beginners to experienced skippers looking for specific skill development. The one-to-one attention our bespoke sailing courses provide means you progress faster and retain more. Our most popular bespoke sailing courses include private RYA Competent Crew and Day Skipper training for individuals or small groups, custom Yachtmaster preparation programmes, and specialist modules in navigation, radio operation, and passage planning. Each of our bespoke sailing courses is led by a senior RYA Yachtmaster Instructor who adapts the training to your specific needs.

What makes our personalised training different
Our bespoke sailing courses are built around you. Before your course starts, we discuss your experience, goals, and any specific areas you want to focus on. This means your bespoke sailing courses spend time on the skills that matter most to you, rather than following a rigid syllabus. Our bespoke sailing courses can combine elements from multiple RYA modules or focus entirely on one area if that is what you need. The flexibility of bespoke sailing courses extends to scheduling too. Need to train across non-consecutive weekends? Want to combine classroom theory with practical sessions? Our bespoke sailing courses can accommodate almost any reasonable request. We have even run bespoke sailing courses for families, corporate teams, and international students visiting the UK specifically for RYA training.

Examples of recent custom training programmes
Recent bespoke sailing courses we have delivered include a private 7-day Channel Islands cruise combining navigation training with passage making, a family introduction to sailing spread over four weekends, and intensive Yachtmaster Fast Track programmes for career changers. Each of these bespoke sailing courses was unique, designed specifically for the client requirements. Our team loves the challenge of creating perfect bespoke sailing courses, call us with your ideas and we will make them happen.

Frequently asked questions
Q: Do I need previous experience? A: No. Our RYA Competent Crew course is designed for complete beginners. You’ll learn everything on the course, sail handling, deck work, safety procedures, and living aboard a cruising yacht. Q: What type of yachts do you use? A: We maintain a modern fleet of Bavaria cruising yachts, 36 to 44 feet, fitted with the latest Raymarine navigation electronics and regularly serviced. Each yacht has multiple cabins, a galley, chart table, and full safety equipment including liferaft and EPIRB.

Q: How many students per course? A: Maximum of 5. This gives you plenty of time at the helm and proper individual attention from your RYA-qualified instructor. Some schools pack 8 or more students onto a boat, we keep our groups small for a reason. Q: What’s included in the price? A: Everything. Tuition, accommodation, all meals, wet-weather gear, lifejackets, safety equipment, certificate, and marina berthing. No hidden extras. Many schools charge extra for food (£20–40/day), accommodation (£30–50/night), and kit hire (£15–25/day), we don’t. Our prices are genuinely all-inclusive.

Q: Can I do theory courses online? A: Yes. RYA Day Skipper Theory, Coastal Skipper Theory, and Yachtmaster Theory are all available online through Commodore Yachting. Work through them at your own pace and complete the practical course when you’re ready. Q: What happens after I qualify? A: You can build experience with our Mile Building weekends, charter yachts from our fleet (available to qualified sailors), or progress to the next RYA level. Many of our students return year after year for advanced courses and cruises.
