Sail GP is back in Portsmouth — and we’re taking you to watch it
On July 25 and 26, 2026, the world’s fastest sail racing returns to the Solent for the Emirates Great Britain Sail Grand Prix. Last year’s event sold out. This year’s will too. And Commodore Yachting is running two one-day spectator boat trips so you can watch it all from the best seats possible — right on the water.
Forget the packed grandstand on Southsea Common. Forget craning your neck behind someone taller than you. From the deck of Emerald Star, our 44ft Bavaria, you’ll be a few hundred metres from the race boundary, watching twelve F50 catamarans tear past at 60 knots. You’ll feel the spray. You’ll hear the sails crack. You won’t be watching on a screen — you’ll be there.
Two days, 16 spaces
We’re running one boat each day, Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 July, with a maximum of 8 guests aboard. That means 16 spaces total across the weekend. If you want one, don’t sit on it.
Each day runs from 10:00 to approximately 19:30, departing from Premier Gosport Marina. We’ll sail out to the race area with plenty of time to find the best viewing position before the first race starts at 16:00. There are three fleet races each day, back to back. Between races, we’ll serve lunch and talk about what we just saw — and what’s about to happen next.
What’s included:
- Full day aboard Emerald Star (44ft Bavaria) with an experienced RYA-qualified skipper
- Hot lunch, plus tea, coffee, and soft drinks throughout the day
- Safety briefing and all safety equipment
- Binoculars available on board
- SailGP radio commentary when available
£150 per person. That’s less than a premium grandstand ticket onshore — and you’ll have a far better view, proper food and drink included, and a proper day out on the water instead of sitting in a plastic seat all afternoon.
Why watch from the water?
A grandstand ticket at Sail GP Portsmouth costs £75 to £130 just for the seat. You’re looking at the course from a fixed angle on Southsea Common, miles from the start line and the turning gates. You can’t move. You can’t reposition. If the wind shifts and the course changes, you’re stuck.
On Emerald Star, we can move with the action. Tom and the team have been sailing these waters for over 30 years — we know where to be. When the fleet rounds the gate and the boats come flying past at full noise, you’ll be close enough to see the crews working, the spray coming off the foils, and the split-second decisions that win or lose races.
And you get a day’s sailing out of it. Sail GP is the headline act, but the trip out and back through Portsmouth Harbour, past the Spinnaker Tower, and across the Solent is an experience in itself.
